Doula Profile

My name is Robbie Person and I am a Douglas County native. I was born and raised in Sedalia, Colorado, where I now live on property that was homesteaded by my great-grandfather in the late 1800's. Donald and I were married in September 1982 right out of high school. Our oldest daughter Jill, lives in Indiana with her husband, Charlie. She has a degree in elementary education and they just opened a Fitness 19 franchise in Evansville. Our son, Kevin, is 22 and works for Castle Pines Metro District plowing snow in winter, and as an irrigation tech during the summer. Kendra is our youngest at 19, and is the receptionist for Rocky Mountain Spine & Sport Mountainside in Lone Tree. Kevin and Amber blessed us with our first grandchild, Hagen Lee, on December 5, 2008 and they live with us! We are truly spoiled!

I believe that every woman is entitled to a positive birth experience. I believe through education of the birth process, information about what to expect of your body and emotions and continuing support, this is possible. My goal as a doula is to provide women and their partners with informational support as well as emotional and physical encouragement and comfort during labor and birth. I will also nurture you during your prenatal and postpartum periods, offering guidance, reassurance and instruction where I am qualified. Women should have the right to choose how to birth their children, where to birth them and whom to have present. I will be an advocate for you and do my best to ensure your birth experience is as you want it.

I was trained in March of 2003 by Alice Jackson and Farol Kouts of Rocky Mountain Doula Educators, Inc. They are doulas, educators, a retired obstetrical nurse, mothers and between them have over 60 years of experience. I took a Prepared Childbirth Class through Littleton Centura Hospital in April 2003 and another at Sky Ridge Medical Facility in March 2007. In June 1995 I took a Childbirth Education Class for Teen Mothers at St. Joseph’s Hospital as preparation for birth coaching my 16 year old niece. I became a DONA International Certified Birth Doula in August 2004. In July of 2006 I completed 15.6 hours of continuing education units at the DONA International Conference in Denver. In November of 2007 I took a class titled "The Baby’s Experience of Childbirth" taught by Karen Strange, a certified midwife and neonatal resuscitation instructor. In December of 2008 I participated in an Advanced Doula Training through Cocoon Enterprises, LLC at the Mountain Midwifery Center in preparation to doula families at Colorado’s only free-standing birth center.

I feel I have been called to assist women during pregnancy, through labor and delivery and postnatally. I have always been one to serve and I believe that God is urging me to serve women and their families during this life-changing event. I am anxious to fulfill my calling in assisting women to have their best possible birth experience.

My vision for all families is that you educate yourselves so you can make informed decisions for your pregnancy, labor, and birth. As parents you have choices of care providers, where to birth your babies, and whom to have present. My hope is you will:

  • Develop a relationship with your care provider, in which your voices are heard and your decisions respected, build a relationship with trust and open communication
  • Find a place that reflects who you are and what you want in birth, a place that nurtures your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs
  • Where mom can feel confident, empowered, and supported
  • Where you feel safety, security, and love
  • Where birth is considered normal and intervention is used by necessity, not by routine

Pregnancy, labor, and birth are physically demanding, tense, emotionally and spiritually charged events. Every birth is unique and special in it's own way and should be cherished and revered. My goal is to help you have your best possible birth experience.
